What is Beet Root Powder?
Beet root powder is made from the beetroot which is the taproot portion of the beet plant. Usually known in North America as the beet, also table beet, garden beet, red beet, or golden beet. It is one of several of the cultivated varieties of Beta vulgaris grown for their edible taproots and their leaves (called beet greens). Other than as a food, beets have use as a food coloring and as a medicinal plant. Many beet products are made from other Beta vulgaris varieties, particularly sugar beet. Beta vulgaris provides a particularly rich source of betaine. Betaine-rich foods are known to produce the positive effect of relaxation. In addition, Beet powder is a great natural source for potassium, phosphorus, iron, magnesium, calcium, pantothenic acid, vitamin A, B and C.
Beta vulgaris is a common ingredient in spaghetti sauces, tomato products and salad dressings. Beets are also very high in natural sugars and beet root powder adds an earthy sweetness to foods and beverages. Approximately one teaspoon of beet root powder is equivalent to one average size beet.
